Full review

Magerealm: Rise of Chaos invites you to protect your realm from the forces of evil by turning into one of the powerful mages that survived the fall of the Holy City.

Magerealm includes elements classical to MMORPGs, such as a clans system, artifact crafting, and character customization. You can choose between three classes, besides having the possibility to recruit a variety of Angels and Heroes that will assist you in every battle and fight by your side if you summon them. They can also be trained, and improving your relationship with them can unlock their full potential and enhance their abilities.

Story

Beautiful 2.5D settings decorate Magerealm.

Explore a mythical world as you complete missions, visit dungeons, and face powerful bosses to save the world from ending up at the mercy of Anders, the powerful Demon Lord, and his evil army.

In Magerealm, you characters awakens trapped in the celestial realm, stripped from any powers and memories, after the triumph of evil. But there's also help to find on the way: after completing the tutorial, you'll find out you have wings that allow you to move quicker. As if that wasn't enough, you can also improve them in time when you find unique sets that will boost its statistics and give them a completely new appearance.

Angels are the only ones left after the Titan's fall. Celeste is The Angel of Light and seeks justice, while Shadow is the Angel of Darkness.

Classes and mechanics

In Magerealm, you can choose between Realmguard, Truthkeeper, and Spellmaster classes.

Magerealm offers three common MMORPG classes to choose from:

Realmguard: a tank/warrior with high HP values and defensive abilities, but with a limited offense. They can use weapon enchantments and special melee-based attacks.

Spellmaster: the ranged/support class that can heal party members and cast spells from a safe distance.

Truthkeeper: the melee assassin class that boasts higher attack and critical rates, and are able to shift into demons and deal great amounts of damage in a short period of time.

Each class has unique abilities, though it's expected that the developers will feature more in the future. The crafting system will allow you to break items, improve them will materials you found on your way, or create entirely new ones.

Magerealm also has plenty of quests available to complete on the way to level 100: there are six main story chapters with 54 quests each. They can be especially helpful for whenever players get stuck or have difficulties surpassing level requirements for accessing areas.

Items and consumables

Magerealm has several wing sets to choose from.

Magerealm has several different types of wings to offer. Each of them has its own stats, besides their particular aesthetic appearance.

Grace Wings and Flare Wings: can be obtained along with a legendary item.

Ares Wings: rewarded for logging in for two days straight.

Satan Wings: rewarded for logging in for three days straight.

Gracious Wings: rewarded for logging in for four days straight.

Glisten Wings: rewarded for logging in every day for an entire week.

Celeste Wings: rewarded for logging in every day for 15 days.

Radiant Wings: rewarded for logging in every day for a month.

Inferno Wings: unlocked upon reaching Mage Council 1 (M1).

Eclipse Wings: unlocked upon reaching Mage Council 5 (M5). Besides boasting rainbow colors, these wings provide a passive skill (Healing) that gives bearers a 10% chance to recover 5% HP each time they're attacked.

Iron Shards are used as a currency to buy level 40 legendary items, such as armor and accessories, for 20 Iron Shards each. The best way to earn these shards is to participate in World Boss events that can be farmed even while being AFK.

Experience potions are available in three different potencies (and, as you may expect, they help the Hero level up much faster):

EXP Potion I: the first one provides 250 points and can be bought at the Coin Shop for five Arena coins, though they can also drop from dungeons and Tavern draws.
EXP Potion II: this one provides 1000 points and can be purchased at the Coin Shop for 15 Arena coins.
EXP Potion III: the most powerful variant can only be obtained from Tavern draws.

Combat and PvP modes

Magerealm's mechanics are simple, and the combat can be automatic.

Magerealm's gameplay mechanics are relatively simple, since you can allow your character to engage in automatic combat, or you can strategically plan the use of each skill manually. Just like other games of the same genre, you can go alone to some areas, while others will require a party (such as special or high-level dungeons).

The Coliseum (Magerealm's PvP arena) offer two different modes for players to challenge each other: Competition and Prizefight. The first consists in duels without any level limits, which will allow you to advance in the global ranks, while the latter implies betting everything and winning (or losing) depending on the result.

Shop and currency

Magerealm has multiple currencies that allow access to options to improve both characters and Angels. Diamonds can be purchased for real money to be able to buy unique items and improvements at its shop.

Wrapping up

Magerealm: Rise of Chaos is a polished game that guarantees entertainment and has the potential to become one of the best MMORPGs, though it still needs more development time.

The simple interface is easy to use, and its 2.5D graphics are remarkable in the context of browser-based games.

Originality
Magerealm isn't precisely a MMORPG that stands out for its originality, since its story is based in a "Good VS Evil" dynamic, just like many other titles of the same genre.
